Steel Furnace Association of India having its registered office in kolkata start functioning in the year 1965 and thereafter from Delhi, in the year 1983. The Association is involved in promoting the interests of the electric arc furnace industry and other steel producers operating other furnaces to produce steel/downstream products such as mini-blast furnace -EOF, COREX-BOF, Induction Furnace routes etc. Foreign steel companies established abroad and suppliers/manufacturers of inputs, technology machinery etc. are also enrolled as Foreign Members and as Associate Members, respectively of the Association.

The Association has been member of some of the important Committees set up by the Government like the Sectoral Committee on Quality Control. Working Group for making projections in regard to Five Year Plans, Dissemination Committee for horizontal transfer of technologies, etc. The Executive Director is a member of the Board of Governors of the National Institute of Secondary Steel Technology.

The Association are invited by FICCI to be a member of the Expert Group on Industrial Tariff, Anti-dumping and WTO compatibility of Subsidy Schemes etc. The Association through its nominees has been a member of some of the important FICCI Committees like Steel, Foreign Trade, Telecom & IT and Banking & Finance. The Association has been participating in important CII meeting and had also interacted with foreign organizations.

The Association interacts with members and disseminated a variety of information to them covering fiscal, commercial & technical areas, and important development both in India & abroad. The Association is very much interested in securing cost reduction through fiscal and other measures of various inputs used by the industry, improving quality, increasing per-capita consumption of steel and promoting exports.
